Gobind Singh Deo is the Minister of Communications and Multimedia in Malaysia and the current Member of Parliament for Puchong, Selangor. He is also currently the National Deputy Chairman of the Democratic Action Party (DAP) and the Chairman of DAP Selangor.

He read law at the University of Warwick, United Kingdom and thereafter qualified as a Barrister of Lincoln’s Inn. Upon his return to Malaysia and subsequent call to the High Court of Malaya, he commenced practice at Messrs Karpal Singh & Co. from 1996 to 2006 after which he set up his own legal practice, Messrs Gobind Singh Deo & Co. which is based in Kuala Lumpur. He ceased legal practice after being appointed Minister in the Cabinet of Malaysia in May 2018.

Whilst in practice, he appeared in numerous controversial cases and was considered one of the country’s leading criminal and human rights lawyers. He led a number of high profile cases including the trial of former Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the sedition trial of human rights and constitutional lawyer, the late Mr Karpal Singh. He was also lead counsel for the former Chief Minister of Penang, Lim Guan Eng in respect of charges of corruption and abuse of power. He has appeared in all courts in Malaysia including the Special Court, Federal Court and Court of Appeal. He has over 200 cases reported in the legal journals.
